Richard Fitzpatrick is the founder of SkinMedica,[1] which is the company that makes TNS Recovery Complex. This skin product contains NouriCel, which is an ingredient created from harvested infant foreskins.[2][3] Oprah Winfrey promotes this product.[4][5]
Fitzpatrick defends himself
The invention of TNX Recovery Complex earned Fitzpatrick the dubious honor of being named Allure magazine's "physician woh has most influenced beauty."[6]
According to Fitzpatrick, using foreskin fibroblasts to make the cream is "ethical", because the company only uses the growth hormone from growing artificial skin derived from infant foreskins,[7] and because the skin tissue is not obtained from stem cells or aborted fetal tissue.[8] Fitzpatrick defends the use of foreskins to obtain fibroblasts because circumcision is such a common surgery and it would be a waste not to use them for benefits. "Twelve years ago when this was done there would have been no objection to using foreskin tissue."[9] He says that technology to make cell cultures without foreskins is possible, but "much more expensive".[10] Using foreskins from older men is unacceptable because fibroblasts made from infant skin produces more and lasts longer.[11]
