Richard Fitzpatrick ist der Gründer von SkinMedica,[1] der Firma, die TNS Recovery Complex herstellt. Dieses Hautpflegeprodukt enthält NouriCel, einer Zutat, die aus gesammelten Kinder-Vorhäuten hergestellt wird.[2][3] Oprah Winfrey bewirbt dieses Produkt.[4][5]
Fitzpatrick verteidigt sich
Mit der Erfindung des TNX Recovery Complex wurde Fitzpatrick die zweifelhafte Ehre zuteil, vom Allure-Magazin zum "Arzt, der die Schönheit am meisten beeinflusst hat", ernannt zu werden.[6]
Laut Fitzpatrick ist die Verwendung von Vorhaut-Fibroblasten zur Herstellung der Creme "ethisch", da das Unternehmen nur das Wachstumshormon aus künstlicher Haut verwendet, die aus Vorhaut von Säuglingen gewonnen wird,[7] und weil das Hautgewebe nicht aus Stammzellen oder abgetriebenem fötalem Gewebe gewonnen wird.[8] Fitzpatrick verteidigt die Verwendung von Vorhäuten zur Gewinnung von Fibroblasten, da die Beschneidung eine so häufig vorkommende Operation ist und es eine Verschwendung wäre, sie nicht zum Nutzen zu verwenden.
